The Art of Chocolate- Bar Making
$59.00
Step into the studio at Artisan Confections for an immersive journey into the world of fine chocolate. As the DC Metro area's premier boutique and workshop, we invite you to our McLean location to master the delicate craft of chocolate making in an intimate, private setting. You will enjoy plenty of samples as you learn the techniques used by professional chocolatiers to create beautiful, artisan bars.
We begin with an introduction to the essential science behind the perfect chocolate finish. You will learn about cocoa butter crystallization and the specific temperature ranges required for professional results. Our instructors will provide a live demonstration of tempering techniques to show you how to achieve that signature snap and shine.
Once the chocolate is ready, you will move to your workspace to begin the creative process. You can choose from a wide variety of premium inclusions, including toasted nuts, dried fruits, sea salt, and aromatic spices. You will pour the tempered chocolate into molds, learn the tapping technique to remove air bubbles, and carefully hand decorate your custom bars.
While your creations set in the cooling station, we will gather for a lively discussion. This is a great time to explore the rich history of chocolate, learn about global sourcing and fair trade practices, and discuss unique flavor pairings. We are also happy to answer any questions you have about recreating these techniques in your own kitchen!
The most rewarding part of the session is seeing your finished work. You will unmold your bars to check for the perfect shine before moving on to the packaging station. We provide our signature purple packaging along with stickers and decorative supplies so you can personalize your bars, making them perfect for gifting or keeping for yourself.
We conclude the session with final questions and a celebration of your new skills. You will head home with your handmade chocolate bars and the knowledge to continue your chocolate journey!

All packages are shipped via UPS. Shipping rates are flat costs per address. If you are shipping to more than one address, then additional shipping charges will apply for each shipment. We can not ship to PO or APO Boxes
Most of our shipments are shipped Monday through Wednesday in order to avoid having the chocolates sit over the weekend in an unconditioned warehouse. Orders placed after 2 PM on Wednesdays will be held until the following Monday to ensure minimal time in transit.
Delivery timelines do not take unexpected weather delays into consideration, which may affect delivery timelines, ship dates and arrival dates. We cannot be held responsible for delays due to weather, incorrect address provided to us or other circumstances beyond our control.
To reduce the risk of melted chocolate in transit to warmer climates (70°F and higher), we use insulated packaging and ice packs to protect the chocolates. In summer months, all orders that are shipped will include insulated packaging and ice packs. The need for additional packaging is reflected in the shipping rates.
